Muslims are asked to show the 5 prayers in Qur'aan.
Qur'aan does not say, "Muslims, you should pray 5 times daily".
So, where can we find the verses which show that Muslims have pray five times?
Translation of 20:130 "Bear then patiently what they say, and glorify your Lord by the praising of Him before the rising of the sun and before its setting, and during hours of the night do also glorify (Him) and during parts of the day, that you may be well pleased.""
Transliteration of TaHa 20:130, made easy to read:
“Fasbir ala ma yaquluna wa sab-beh be-hamde rab-bika qabla tulu-ish shamse wa qabla ghroobeha, wa min aanail-layle wa atraaf-an-nahar, la-allaka tarda.”
qabla tulu-ish shamse: Before the sun rises. That is the morning prayer Fajir.
qabla ghroobeha: Before the sun sets. That is the Asr prayer.
aanail-layl: covers the evening after sunset and the night. Those are Maghrib and Isha’a.
Aana also means same sides.
atraaf-an-nahar” means after the noon and the late afternoon. Two parts of the day.
Atraaf-an also means sides of the day, after the declining of the sun. Those are Zohar and Asar.
So, short and sweet: 5 prayers.
Verse: 17:78
"Establish regular prayers - at the sun's decline till the darkness of the night, and the morning prayer and reading: for the prayer and reading in the morning carry their testimony."
Some Muslims and polemicists quote 24:58 from Surah Al-Noor to show three prayers, which is wrong and absurd as this verse has nothing to do with prayer times. It is talking about privacy.
